Michael,
In the Add Printer Wizard you need to specify that it is a "Local"
printer, not a "Network" printer. Uncheck the option to detect any Plug
and Play printers. On the next page chose the bottom option, "Create a
new port" of the type "Standard TCP/IP Port". You will then be able to
enter the IP address of the printer.
