I have someone who has a new Titanium Powerbook, running OS 9.2,
which was working fine until she bought an HP Deskjet 990cse printer.
Now, most of the time when the computer boots up, it crashes with a
bus error. I have zapped the pram and that would help sometimes, it
would allow the computer to boot all the way and she'd then be able
to print, but no sooner than she either shuts it down or restarts
it, the bus error reappears.
At first I thought it might be a driver issue so I went to HP and got
an updated version of the driver for the printer, but after I
installed it, the bus error got worse, it came up almost every time
the computer booted up and zapping the pram didn't help so I
uninstalled that and just reinstalled the older version of the driver
from the CD.
I've had a lot of weird and varying problems with computers with OS
9.2, mostly compatibility issues (like with AOL, random crashing on
Blue and White G3s-- mine included--), does anyone know if OS 9.2 is
particularly problematical or am I just unlucky?
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm a little stumped. I'm thinking
that maybe I'll have to talk to HP, but would like to avoid that for
a little longer.
Thanks very much in advance.
Beth
