I haven't seen any discussions, but I have 2 Macs running MacOS 8 and
9. I fortunately haven't had any trouble with connectivity like many
of you have had. I haven't received any phone call yet, but when I
saw the modem looked ready, all I did was power-cycle the modem and
our internal ethernet hub for good-measure, change the setting of the
Macs TCP control panels to DHCP, and rebooted. They both came
on-line and I had conenctivity on both Macs. My total cable outage
was about 2 days. Then I had to spend some time fixing all the
Eudora settings, address books, and filters, but that was anticipated.
Since then things have performed reasonable, although there have been
a few hiccups in connectivity which appeared as 2 minute connectivity
losses and as periods of high packet loss. (To quantify the latter,
I was seeing >30% tcp retransmission rate from our home linux system
during these periods)
