MS Word doubling docs

This is odd and someone on Dejanews had the same problem:

I have Office 97and Windows 2000. When I do not have MS Word 97
open, and I double-click a file to open, Word opens and
then loads the document and loads the same document a
second time. However, if I open the document from within Word 97, it
only opens it once.

Does any one have suggestions?
