Around the beginning of June 2000, the security certificates for the
UCLink and the Berkeley Internet Link (BILink) Web sites were renewed.
As a result of this change, users of certain older Web browsers for the
Macintosh (only) have been unable to access secure Web pages on these
sites. These browsers include:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 and earlier
- Certain America Online (AOL)-provided Web browsers
Users of these browsers encounter the error message:
"The identity certificate uses an unknown signature algorithm."
This problem resulted from a change made by VeriSign, the vendor
of the security certificates. This problem may also affect other
campus Web sites over time as they obtain or renew Web server
certificates from VeriSign.
Workarounds for affected users

Users who encounter this problem can resolve it with any of the
following workarounds:

not affected by the problem.

available from:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/en/default.asp
