In Astronomy, we have six graduate students with Mac Minis on their
desks. They work well for providing the OS X interface to e-mail and
the web (e.g., reading journal articles), and students who wish to do
heavy data reduction and other more intensive computing simply ssh
into a linux or Mac server and run command line and X11 applications
there. The Minis do slow down if too many applications are run
simultaneously, but in general, people understand their limitations
and enjoy using them.
