DOCS Hardware Support pilots a new on-site repair service

In an effort to improve customer service for computer repair, DOCS
Hardware Support is partnering with an external vendor, ComputerCare,
to provide an on-site computer repair technician on the UC Berkeley
campus. This is a pilot program that is effective November 17, 2008,
and will run through the end of the fall 2008 semester.

ComputerCare will provide the following on-site services:

· In-warranty service for Apple, HP, IBM, Lenovo, and Fujitsu.
(Customers requiring Dell in-warranty repair will need to continue to
contact Dell directly.)

· Out-of-warranty repair for all computer brands.

· Printer repair.

· Miscellaneous services:

o Data transfer

o Data backup

o Memory installation

o Hard drive installation

In-warranty repair (i.e., repairs during the warranty period) is
free, provided it is for damage covered by the manufacturer's
warranty. All other types of repair are subject to a $115 diagnostic
fee.

In addition, ComputerCare will provide on-site repair for campus
department-owned computers and printers. Please note that to be
eligible, departments need to be located within a five-block radius of
campus.

Personally owned machines in need of repair are ineligible for this
pilot. However, they may be dropped off at the DOCS offices in D25
Hearst Field Annex. Drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday
between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, and Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

After the pilot, DOCS will assess the effectiveness of the partnership
in providing computer repair service to the campus, based on customer
feedback.
