2008 University of California Computing Services Conference (UCCSC)
Introduction
UCCSC is an annual event that offers staff throughout the UC system
an opportunity to share knowledge about developing and operating
campus IT services. This year's conference will be held at UC Santa
Barbara, from July 20 through July 22.
Conference theme
This year's conference theme, "Now UC IT...", explores the life
stages of IT services from conception through maturity to legacy
status. In addition to the usual single-topic presentations, UCCSC
2008 will offer two new formats for sharing issues, insights, and
expertise: panel discussions on a single service or topic, and
seminars/tutorials on a particular technical issue or topic.
Inexpensive lodging available
Limited on-campus lodging is available at Santa Rosa Hall, a
traditional two-story residence hall, for two nights, July 20 and 21.
Lodging includes breakfast and lunch on July 21 and 22, linen
service, and wireless Internet access. The cost for the two-night
stay is $177.84 per person for a single room, or $139.67 per person
for a double room.
Minimizing travel costs
Flying directly from the Bay Area to the Santa Barbara airport is
quite expensive. However, you can reduce your travel cost by several
hundred dollars by flying from the San Francisco or Oakland
International Airports to the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and then
taking the Amtrak train to Santa Barbara. The Burbank Amtrak station
is located at the airport. Visit the Amtrak website,
http://www.amtrak.com/, for details and train schedules about service
between Burbank and Santa Barbara.
