Hi Jon,

I'm not sure, but perhaps there are some lingering files from the
MathType installation still in his account causing the problem.
Perhaps a plug-in or something in his application support folder?

Maybe reinstalling MathType will help get rid of the problem for
now so he can reinsert the objects. If you don't find anything
else, I'd say go ahead and email their support at support_at_dessci.com

I would imagine they've definitely seen the problem before.
