One of my faculty is having a strange problem on
a MacBook running 10.5.2 with Office 2004.
He had installed MathType and was using it from
within PowerPoint as the equation editor.
For various reasons, he uninstalled MathType.
Now, in PowerPoint when he tries to insert an object,
he still sees MathType as a choice. That's not so bad.
What is bad is that even if he chooses the Microsoft
Equation Editor, PowerPoint appears to still be
trying to open MathType. It fails, of course,
and gives the dreaded "The server application, source file,
or item cannot be found" error".
This happens even after I removed and then reinstalled Office 2004.
This is a per-user problem because when I login using
a different account, everything works fine. I tried removing
various caches and plist files under his home directory but
I didn't find one that made any difference.
I've googled for this, but none of the suggestions worked.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Cordially,
