CalMail change causing SSL error with Eudora

A small change was made on the CalMail system this afternoon which
seems to affect Eudora users with older versions. At this time, I do
not know if it is both Mac and PC, I have been able to test it using
Mac Eudora 6.1. Mac Eudora 6.2 is not affected by the problem. It
seems to be a problem with the way the older versions of Eudora
handle StartTLS.

The error message users will receive is "SSL negotiation failed" when
accessing using either POP or IMAP. If any of your users receive
this message, they can either:

1. Go into their settings, change the SSL ports to Alternate Port.

2. Upgrade to the last version of Eudora. software.berkeley.edu
still has archived copies that users can download.

3. Switch to Thunderbird.

An initial check of the logs showed about 200 users who had received
the error message since the change was made.

There is a message up on the CalMail Home Page, directing users to
use the webmail client at this time. I have created a Knowledge Base
article, #2587, to assist users.

I would like to know if any users experiencing the problem are using
PC Eudora. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Bernie
