Your input on Firefox in the enterprise is sought by Mozilla

   The Mozilla Foundation is actively asking for your feedback on how
the open source Firefox web browser can work better in an enterprise
setting, including at educational institutions like UC Berkeley.

   In a series of upcoming, toll-free conference calls, beginning next
Wednesday morning, July 25, 2007, you'll have the opportunity to tell
the Mozilla folks about your positive experiences and frustrations in
configuring, deploying, and managing Firefox within your department
or unit, as well as what you'd like to see in future versions that
would make these tasks easier.

   You can find details at:

   Michael Kaply's blog
   "Firefox Enterprise Working Group Update"

   and

   Some potential enhancements that might be offered in an
'enterprise-enabled' Firefox appear below.

The truth is that those of use dealing with Enterprise deployment
challenges are verbalizing the following: "How can we get Firefox's
enterprise capabilities to be on par with those of IE?"
[Some suggestions for areas in which Firefox might be enhanced to fit
better into the enterprise include:]
* Enterprise Settings Management -
   o How do we flip a setting on every Desktop in the event of a vulnerability?
   o How do we prevent users from altering settings that are deemed risky?
   o How can we enable and lock Security Zone-like implementation in Firefox?
* Granular Addon Management -
   o How can we prevent a user from installing or uninstalling an
extension without having to compile extensions into the browser
itself?
   o How do we internalize extension repositories so we can "Bless"
extensions before our users get to them?
   o How can we disable an extension or plugin on all desktops in the
event of an emergency?
* Patch management -
   o How do we not have to recompile and repackage Firefox every
single time a critical vulnerability is released? (For large firms
with a 3-6 month turnaround time for patches, aggressive patch
releases by the vendor is not always a good thing!)
   o Can Firefox installations take advantage of self-repair (an MSI feature)?
   o Can we get MSI installers?
* Maintenance, Support
   o We're on our own --
   [As well as keeping Firefox bookmarks synchronized with those of
other desktop browsers ...]
