Hello CalNet Developers and Campus Technical Staff,
We are changing the date of the caldir.berkeley.edu to
ldap.berkeley.edu DNS switch from June 25 to July 2, due to an issue
with a major application that is used by students. There is fear on
the part of the developers of this application that since June 25 is
the first day of the 8-week Summer session, there could be an issues
with this application.
We apologize to everyone who worked diligently to convert their
applications before June 25. For the people who still have
applications to convert, although this gives you a week extension,
please continue to work as hard as you can to get your apps converted
*well before* July 2nd.
Therefore, on July 2, we will reconfigure the DNS for
caldir.berkeley.edu to point to ldap.berkeley.edu.
Before July 2, however, we hope that applications currently using the
CalNet v1 service will have converted to use the CalNet v2 service.
Note: We hope the transition will be seamless for most applications,
but we can not guarantee this. Therefore, developers have two
options: 1) Test your application to ensure that it works against
ldap.berkeley.edu, or 2) Explicitly move your application from v1 to
v2 before July 2. We feel option 2 is the most appropriate course of
action for all developers to take.

Note: Some people have noted that some of the URLs above produce a
404 error. If this happens for you, make sure there are no spaces in
the URL you are trying to view. (There are no spaces in this draft,
but once the email is sent, spaces have been known to be produced in
some of the URLs above. A space shows up as %20 in HTML.)
Also, this change will not affect email address lookups via a mail
program, e.g., Eudora, Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.
If you have any questions or need help, please do not hesitate to ask
via calnet-admin_at_lists.berkeley.edu.
* The "First on many reminders" email went out to the CalNet
Developers list, only. All future email about the DNS changes for
caldir.berkeley.edu will go to the CalNet Developers list, Micronet,
and Magnet. We apologize in advance for the cross-posting.
