mirrored raid: 2-out-of-2 degraded drives

Trying to make a long story short...

My Xserve's mirrored RAID drives got to the point where one was
degraded, and the other was completely shot -- as in "format/eject/
ignore"-shot.

I reformatted the lost drive, and re-integrated it into the mirrored
RAID array with the other (degraded) drive.

Now I have a degraded mirrored RAID array, where (surprise) both
drives are degraded.

Firing up disk utility and clicking on the array immediately, without
prompts, fires up a RAID repair. However, after doing this a couple
of times and with several reboots, everything is still degraded.

Disk utility volume repair fixed one minor error on the volume, but
could not fix the other. TechTool Deluxe doesn't get past "Scanning
Volumes...", so it never gets to the point where a repair can be
attempted.

I will probably ultimately wipe out the array entirely and restore
from a clone... unless anyone knows how to repair a doubly-degraded
mirrored RAID array under 10.3 server?

Thanks!
-Greg
