   There's a terrific site, XvsXP.com, that compares the built-in
features of Windows XP and Mac OS X. Regarding the off-line
synchronization feature you describe in Windows, there's nothing
comparable built into Mac OS X:

   http://www.xvsxp.com/system/data_sync.php

So you'll need, at least for now, to look at freeware, shareware,
or commercial synchronization utilities to obtain this functionality.

A starting place to identifying such software might be to search on
terms such as "synchronize" at Mac software download sites such as
<http://versiontracker.com> or <http://macupdate.com>.

Hopefully other Micronetters will also chime in. In addition, via
this message, I'm copying your query to the MAGNet list. That list
reaches some 240 campus people - many of whom are not on the Micronet
list - who are involved in some way with campus Macintosh support.
