"sending password in clear text" message

Hi, folks,

Our unit works off a server and every time we connect to it the
system asks us to confirm that we know that we are "sending the
password in clear text". I assume it is dangerous to do that. Is
there a way to encrypt the password?

Tips are greatly appreciated.

Kristina
