"Easy Fix for Can't Repair Permissions problem after recent updates in
10.3.9 - For those that had the problem in 10.3.9 after applying the
iTunes 6.0.2 update (generally blamed for the problem, although we also
updated to QT 7.0.4 the same day) and haven't already done the previous
tips mentioned in Wednesday's news (reapplying the 10.3.9 combo update or
reverting to iTunes 6.0.1) - AJ sent an easy fix that worked for me (from
the DAW-Mac list he said).
In the root of the OS X boot drive, go to the Library>Receipts folder and
delete any iTunes pkg file there except the iTunesX.pkg and
iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg files.
On my PB G4, I deleted the itunes.pkg and Itunes4.pkg files and then was
finally able to run repair permissions from Disk Utility without getting
the "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management
Tool..." error. (You'd think it should be ignoring those old receipts.)"
