This message was just sent out to the accounts on the Socrates domain:

==========
If you are currently using Pine on the Socrates server to access an
account on any of the CalMail domains, please read the following.

The original instructions for changing Pine on Socrates to access the
CalMail domains did not take into account the SMTP authentication
requirements of the campus. A change being made to the CalMail system on
January 30th will affect the ability of Pine users to send mail unless the
configuration file is changed.

From the Pine Main Menu, press S (Setup), then C (Config). Scroll down
two lines to "smtp-server", then press C (Change Value). If you are
accessing a CalMail address, change this setting to:

smtp-server = calmail.berkeley.edu/ssl/user=LOGIN

(replacing LOGIN with your actual account name.)

If you are accessing an account on any of the other CalMail domains, your
smtp-server should show:

smtp-server = calmail.berkeley.edu/ssl/user=LOGIN@DOMAIN.berkeley.edu

replacing LOGIN with your actual login and DOMAIN with the actual domain
(example: @socrates.berkeley.edu)

Once you have made the change, press Return, then E (Exit Setup) and Y
(Yes).

If you experience any problems, please contact consult@berkeley.edu

Thank You.
