access to Oracle 9i from Mac 10.3.9

I'd love to hear from anyone who has installed and configured client
access software for connecting to an Oracle 9i database. I have
really tried to work my way through the Oracle documentation, but I'm
not finding which product I'm supposed to use. (The documentation
for their "client" download, for instance, states that 10.3 SERVER is
the required platform - HUH?)

I'm going to be accessing the Oracle DB through perl, php and a
Cold-Fusion-like web app server called WiTango. WiTango prefers an
ODBC or JDBC connection.

While busy porting to perl, I'm also running some legacy scripts on
Visual FoxPro on Mac Classic, so if you've hit a 9i DB from Classic,
I'd appreciate any help you could give there too!

yikes!
