Apple Computer, Inc. has announced that they will be releasing Mac
OS X 10.4 ("Tiger") -- in both workstation and Server products --
next Friday, April 29.

The following page on Apple's website provides an overview of this
forthcoming OS release, including a link to a page describing over
200 new features:

   http://www.apple.com/macosx/

For a list of the system requirements for Mac OS X 10.4, including
the specific Macintosh models capable of running it, please see:

   http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html

Apple also provides an overview of how to upgrade from earlier
versions of Mac OS X:

Buying Tiger
------------
As with past releases of Mac OS X, the Campus Computer Store (TSW)
will be offering discounted pricing on Mac OS X 10.4 for eligible
campus purchasers:

   http://www.tsw.berkeley.edu/

In addition, more significantly discounted pricing for departmental
purchases of licenses and media will also be available. TSW's Kin
Jung has told us that he will be sending an announcement regarding
that pricing to this list at a later date.

Mac OS X 10.4 for workstations ships in retail packaging only on
DVD media. If your Mac's optical drive doesn't read DVDs and you
need CD-ROMs instead, there is a $9.95 media exchange offer. A form
for requesting this offer, in PDF-format, is linked from the right
side of the 'how to upgrade' page, above.

Finally, customers who purchase Macintosh computers today are
eligible for a reduced price upgrade to Tiger, as described at:
