Resolving Java-related issues after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.3.9

   Apple's latest Software Update to its Mac OS X system software, to
Mac OS X 10.3.9, has caused Java-related problems for some users.
According to Apple, "Safari may unexpectedly quit, and standalone
Java applications may unexpectedly quit or not launch." Simply
running 'java -version' can generate a "Segmentation fault" error
message.

   Apple has just released a support document describing these issues,
and detailing two methods for resolving them:
