Apple LCD w/ VGA laptop?

I have a user who is absolutely lusting over the $899 20" Apple
display... and his computer is a Vaio with VGA output. The closest I
could come to making this work was an $800 digitizer -- that doesn't
even reach the resolution of the Apple 20" anyway:

(Yes, a Mac Mini would be a better value...)

Before I burst his bubble, does anyone know of other affordable
solutions? (Besides buying a new laptop... or applying an Apple
sticker to a Viewsonic LCD.)
