   Don, I'd hazard a guess that some or all of
these may be OS X 10.3 ("Panther") users who have
not yet added at least one certificate to their
Keychain, as per:

   Sending and receiving mail over SSL/TLS
encrypted connections in Eudora - under 'factory'
or 'clean' (i.e. non-upgrade) installations of
Panther - will silently fail if this isn't
carried out.

   This is not yet linked from the current CalMail

and needs to be. The CalMail team will be
updating these instructions.

   There appears to be one step and a window name
description in the instructions for Mac OS X Mail
(aka Apple Mail or Mail.app) at

which may be specific to an older version of Mail
- which Apple has steadily, and somewhat
stealthily, upgraded over various OS X and system
updates. As you note, this could confuse users
of the latest versions of Mail. The CalMail team
will also be updating these instruction.
