running disk repairs on OS X mirrored raid

We have an Xserve G5 with two stock 250GB configured in mirrored
software RAID via OS X's Disk Utility. The machine has been exhibiting
some odd behavior that may be related to disk issues, so I'd like to
run some repair utilities on this array.

Are there any special considerations regarding running utilities on the
RAIDed disks?
