Mark Ingles of DOCS has reported that, in his experience so far,
simply re-installing Norton AntiVirus 9.0.2 'on top of' an existing
installation of 9.0.2 will resolve this problem.

Additional reports of success or failure when doing so would be
welcomed: please post them to MAGNet. If anyone can't get this to
work, I'll be glad to request a subscription key from Symantec on
your or your customers' behalf.

P.S. As noted earlier, this problem comes about because Symantec does
not have a non-retail Macintosh anti-virus product to offer to its
site licensees. In effect, we're using the same product that is
included in retail boxes, for which the LiveUpdate feature is
designed to 'expire' after one year's use.

P.S. The documentation of this issue on the Connecting@Berkeley
website has been modified as follows
<http://cab.berkeley.edu/help/macissues.html#nav9-liveupdate-expiration>:
Mac OS X: Norton AntiVirus's LiveUpdate feature reports "Your
antivirus subscription has expired" when you attempt to update virus
definitions (August 18, 2004, updated September 2, 2004)
Solution: According to Symantec Corporation, this issue can be
resolved by upgrading to Norton AntiVirus version 9.0.2.
(If you happen to be encountering this issue and are already running
Norton AntiVirus version 9.0.2, you can try simply reinstalling
Norton AntiVirus 9.0.2 'on top of' your existing installation.)
Norton AntiVirus 9.0.2 is included on the Connecting@Berkeley 2005
CD. It can also be downloaded from the WSS Software website
(http://software.berkeley.edu).
Details: Norton AntiVirus for the Macintosh has a built-in one-year
expiration period, which begins when you first install it on your
computer. After expiration you can no longer update Norton AntiVirus
with new virus definitions using its LiveUpdate feature. The message
that LiveUpdate displays after expiration is similar to the following:
Your antivirus subscription has expired. In order to continue
receiving virus definitions, you must buy a new subscription key.
Installing (or reinstalling) Norton AntiVirus version 9.0.2
apparently resets - at least once - the expiration clock for an
additional one-year period.
