A brief follow-up: some of this benefit (relative to the Symantec
scheduler) accrues because the author launches his script via
'anacron', rather than cron:

Also, at a first glance, there may be a discrepancy between a
message his script outputs ("under 30 days") versus his 'mtime'
command (7 days) ...
