Volunteers needed to test the C@B 2005 CD for Macintosh

This is a call for volunteers to help test the Connecting@Berkeley
2005 CD for the Macintosh. This CD, which will be available at no
cost this year to the campus community, helps secure Macintoshes and
connect them to the Internet. Please let me know via email or phone
(x2-5974) if you're interested in helping test.

Out of MAGNet's 230+ members, we're hoping to have at least 10-20
members sign up for testing. Testing can take as little as an hour
or two, and you can do it anytime over the next two weeks (the last
two weeks of July). If you have non-current versions of the Mac OS,
including Mac OS 8.5-9.2.2 or Mac OS X 10.1/10.2, you are strongly
encouraged to help us make sure the CD works under your version of
the OS.

This year, the Connecting@Berkeley CD offers three distinct
installation options. You can choose any or all of the following
installations:

   - Secure
     - Installs Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall.
     - Optionally installs the CalNetPKI root certificate (for use by Safari)
       and Kerberos software and settings.

   - Connect
     - Sets up network connections through UC Berkeley
       - AirBears (Wireless LAN)
       - Home IP and SHIPS (dial-up)
       - Campus Ethernet
       - Laptop IP Service (LIPS) for Ethernet ports in library carrels
         and some other campus locations

   - Software
     - Installs a collection of Internet applications, including:
Eudora, Fugu (SFTP), Netscape (with proxy settings for accessing
databases and other online services licensed by the UCB Library),
       and more ...

   Incentives:

   - You'll be among the first to try some applications before they
generally available for downloading, including Norton Personal
Firewall and the latest version of Eudora.

   - If you submit at least one bug report, you will be entered in
a drawing for prizes: one prize each for Mac OS X testers and
Mac OS 8 & 9 testers. (And you can enter twice by submitting bugs in
     both categories!)

P.S. This is a repeat of a call for volunteers originally sent last
Friday afternoon. Many thanks to the six MAGNet members who have
already volunteered!
