   For clarification, that argument is a straw man; it's never been
made in this discussion.

   My request was that Mac OS 9 not be automatically relegated to the
status of an "older, unsupported OS", vis a vis the campus minimum
security standards, until its security-related characteristics are
examined.

   Just as an FYI, virus definitions updates from anti-virus software
vendors continue to be made available for Mac OS 9. In addition,
there are a number of host-based firewall software choices available
for that OS:
