A reminder: you have two more days - until end of day this Friday,
March 19 - to give your input on features you'd like to see in the
next generation of campus mailing lists:
http://socrates.Berkeley.EDU:7309/public/mlms.html
Nearly 80 responses to this survey have been received to date,
which is a terrific response rate. Just under half of these have
also included narrative comments. To those of you have already
responded: a big "thank you!"
An update: the current plan, subject to change, is to replace
Majordomo 1.94.5 on the old UCLink system with a new mailing list
management package running on the new CalMail system by Memorial Day.
The packages currently under consideration are (in alphabetical order):
* CommuniGate Pro's LIST module
<http://www.stalker.com/CommuniGatePro/LIST.html>
(The integral maillist functionality of CalMail's current
mail server software.)
* GNU Mailman <http://www.list.org/features.html>
Slick and well-liked; used by The Library and possibly other campus
departments.
* Majordomo 2 <http://www.math.uh.edu/majordomo/>
The next generation of Majordomo.
* Sympa <http://www.sympa.org/features.html>
Roughly feature equivalent to GNU Mailman, with some intriguing
unique features (e.g. dynamic lists via SQL or LDAP queries).
(GNU Mailman, Majordomo 2, and Sympa are all open source projects.)
