Another good shareware to have for Mac is MacStumbler;

For PC, it is netstumbler;
http://www.netstumbler.com/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=1&orderby=hitsD

Both scan accurately the surroundings to find the access point(s) with
detail descriptions: like signal level, WEP enable or not, manufacturer,
SSID, Channel etc.. Both also supports GPS.
