Earlier today, IST announced the planned migration to
the new Calmail platform for UCLink users. Based on your
feedback we are rescheduling the bulk migration of
accounts from UCLink to the new campus email system,
CalMail, to take place the following weekend on Saturday,
January 17. (Previously, this migration was scheduled to
occur on Sunday, January 11.) A communications regarding
this reschedule will be sent out shortly.
We will begin voluntary migration for interested users
starting users Monday, January 12, 2004, and continuing
until Saturday, January 17, at 7:00 am. Users can
voluntarily migrate their accounts to the CalMail system
in advance of the official migration by visiting:
http://www-uclink.berkeley.edu
and click the "Manage Your Account" link.
As a department support administer, we want to provide
you the opportunity to begin using the new system in your
departmental environment as soon as possible. This will
provide you an opportunity to experience the voluntary
migration process first hand and provide any feedback that
may assist in the impact of the conversion on your
departments environment. You may request an early
migration of your account, prior to Monday, by sending a
request from your UCLink account to:
migrate@berkeley.edu
Please note for those that voluntarily migrate prior to
Saturday, January 17th, they will need to perform two
additional configuration steps: re-configuring your email
program's POP (or IMAP) and SMTP settings to connect to
calmail.berkeley.edu, rather than to uclink.berkeley.edu.
Users migrating after the 17th will not need to make those
changes. Instructions for making these changes will be
provided at <http://bert.berkeley.edu/calmail>.
From 8:00 am until 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 17, we
will take down the UCLink and CalMail systems to do the
final migration and move all accounts not yet converted.
All mail sent to UCLink accounts will continue to be
delivered and stored, but access to accounts will not be
available until 4:00pm.
If you should have a question or problem concerning the
migration of your account to the new CalMail system, you
can send email to <consult@berkeley.edu> or call
510-642-7776.
Thank you for your feedback and support as we move to the
campus next generation mail platform.

Director, Central Computing Services
