1) Apple announces Mac OS X Panther

On October 8, 2003 Apple announced Mac OS X Panther, the fourth major
release of Mac OS X in just three years. Panther is expected to go
on sale on Friday evening, October 24 at 8:00 p.m. Special events
will be held at Apple stores everywhere.

The Education price on the boxed OS X Panther is $69 (part number M9227LL/A).

For full details on the new Mac OS X Panther go to http://www.apple.com/macosx/

2) Mac OS X Panther Special License Pricing for Departments, Staff,
and Faculty

Under a special agreement for a limited time, Apple is offering UC
campus departments (including individual staff and faculty) the
1000+ volume discount price on a single Panther License and CD. The
agreement does not cover students.

Part#, Description, Price

D2589LL/A Mac OS X Panther 10.3 License (One minimum) $39.00
M9233LL/A Mac OS X Panther 10.3 CD Set (One minimum for install) $5.00
M9234LL/A Mac OS X Panther 10.3 Doc Set $20.00

The special Panther license offer for UC campuses gives Mac users a
significant savings over the shrinkwrap price. But, it requires a
minimum order of 100 licenses and minimum 50 CDs per campus, per
purchase order. To help departments stretch their budget dollars,
The Scholar's Workstation will place orders on behalf of UC Berkeley
to help get the lower price. Campus departments and eligible faculty
and staff may order minimum one license and one cd per purchase.

TSW will place an initial order of 200 licenses, and 100 CDs, to be
sold to eligible departments and faculty/staff accordingly. We expect
the initial order in approximately 1-2 weeks. Upon fulfilling the
initial license orders to our customers, we will then accumulate the
minimum order amount of 100 licenses and 50 CDs and place subsequent
orders to Apple. Documentation sets can be purchased separately,
however, must be included with a license purchase order.

Upon completion of your Mac OS X Panther version 10.3 Volume License
purchase, TSW will provide you with a physical copy of the serial
number for use with the Licenses covered under the UC Volume License
Agreement.

Orders are now being accepted.

3) Mac OS X Up-To-Date Program

Customers who purchase Mac OS X v10.2, Mac OS X Server v10.2 a
qualifying Macintosh system, or a qualifying Xserve system on or
after October 8 can upgrade via the Mac OS Up-To-Date program
directly from Apple. All Power Mac G5 customers are eligible for the
Panther upgrade under this program, regardless of purchase date.
Orders for the upgrade must be postmarked by December 17, 2003. For
full details and to order your upgrade see the attached Up-To-Date
PDF.
