Apple Computer, Inc. announced today that they will be releasing
Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther") -- both server and client -- on Friday,
October 24 at 8 pm. The Apple home page is now featuring a countdown
timer to the hour of Panther's release.

The following InfoWorld article provides a concise overview of the
key new features in Mac OS X 10.3:

In addition, Apple's own Mac OS X page provides links to detailed
looks at 12 of these features (see the "Top New Panther Features"
section of the sidebar at right):

For early adopters, the Apple Store is offering an educational
price on Mac OS X 10.3 (client) of just under $75, including sales
tax and free standard shipping. Copies ordered today, at least, were
scheduled for delivery on October 24. You can place educational
orders via The Scholar's Workstation (TSW)'s vendor build-to-order
partner link to the Apple Store at
<http://www.tsw.berkeley.edu/infocentral.tpl?page=bto_tsw>.

Customers who purchase Macintosh computers beginning today are
eligible for a reduced price upgrade to Mac OS X 10.3, as described
at <http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/>.
