Aaron Roberts correctly pointed out that this is, in one respect, a
known issue. In the Print Center application, Show Printer List -->
(Printer Menu) Show Info --> Installable Options --> there are a
few check boxes for the duplex unit and the added paper tray.
Properly checking these boxes did the trick, and now Reader 5.1 will
duplex correctly.
The odd thing is, that other applications duplexed correctly without
these options being selected, and I was able to duplex correctly from
Reader 5.1 when the agonizingly slow "print as image" option was
selected.
