I have a beige G3/233 desktop with 576 meg. of RAM installed. 3 DIMMs
arranged 256/64/256. It works fine under OS 9.22. I don't expect that it
would have any problems under OS 8.1.
Just in case you were thinking about it as an option, I recommend that you
avoid installing OS X on the machine. While beige G3s are the oldest
officially supported Macs under OS X, it's precarious. Many users
(including myself) have had no end of headaches trying to get OS X installed
and to keep it running.
