UC Berkeley's rights to use anti-virus software from Network
Associates will terminate on Sunday, December 2, 2001. Berkeley's
3-year agreement with Network Associates expires on that date. There
are no perpetual usage rights for the products covered by this
agreement. Because of this, the agreement requires that Berkeley
Campus students, faculty, and staff cease using (and remove) any
Network Associates anti-virus products that were received, directly
or indirectly, from Workstation Support Services. Removal must be
complete by Sunday, December 2, 2001.

The anti-virus products that must be removed are:

      Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit (for DOS; Windows 3.1x, 95, 98,
           NT, and 2000; and Mac OS)
      Network Associates VirusScan (for Windows 3.1x, 95, 98, NT, and 2000)
      Network Associates NetShield (for NT and NetWare servers)
      Network Associates Virex (for Macintosh systems)
      Network Associates Virex Administrator (for Macintosh systems)

On a Windows PC, you can remove these products through the Add/Remove
Programs option in the Control Panel. On a Macintosh, you can remove
these products either by running the campus installer for Norton
AntiVirus (for information, see link below) or by dragging the
software (including those components in the "Control Panels" and
"Extensions" folders) to the Trash.

As a replacement for the expiring anti-virus products, UC Berkeley
has selected Symantec's Norton AntiVirus for campus distribution and
support. Please see the announcement of this change in an article
from the Fall 2001 issue of "Berkeley Computing and Communications,"
