I've run into a similar problem with our network backup in Evans
Hall. On occasion, when performing a network backup of our
department webserver, we have the same problem with the server
dropping off line. I also have problems accessing other networked
macs with the macs being inaccessible. These problems are somewhat
random but occur approx. 30% of the time. Our server tends to drop
off line when I try to do a complete backup but is less likely when I
do an incremental backup. Due to the random nature of events, I
assumed that this was a network problem with Evans hall but it was
not worth my time to try to resolve the problem as I can eventually
perform a backup. When I do a network backup on Sat night and the
server drops off line, we lose access until the mac is rebooted on
Monday.
I dont have a solution but you are not alone.
