    If I'm not mistaken, there is very little difference between the
    Performa 61xx computers and those with the label PowerMacintosh 6100.
    I think your problem with installing 7.6.1 would have to be related
    to something other than the computer being a strange, hybrid antique.
    I have installed System 8 on these models with no problem (Open
    Transport version is 2 or better).

    Does the computer have enough RAM and disk space for the upgrades
    you're attempting? If so, I would just use a System 8.6 CD and go
    with that. There should be no reason to try to find a CD that was
    original for that model.
