The Connecting@Berkeley project team is proud to announce the C@B
(pronounced "cab") 2001 CD. Now in its third year of production, the
newest Connecting@Berkeley CD offers many improvements and new
features. These improvements include:
* The ability to create Home IP and email accounts from home even if
you don't already have a working connection to the Internet.
* A greatly improved and simplified installation and configuration process.
* Full support for Residence Hall In-Room Connections on both
Macintosh and Windows computers.
* Full support for the Laptop IP Service, which allows you to connect
your laptop to the Ethernet ports in the main stacks of the library.
* The addition of settings to allow you to connect to the Lucent Test
Modem Service.
* Full support for Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Mac OS 9.x.
* New software to make it easier to switch between the different ways
that C@B lets you connect to the Internet. (For example, it's now
easy to switch between connecting a laptop to the Ethernet cable in
your office and using its modem to dial up from home.)
* Security software including CalNet Kerberos Authentication software
for Windows and SSH Secure Client for Windows and Linux.
The Connecting@Berkeley 2001 CD remains the easiest way to configure
your connection to the Internet through UC Berkeley, as well as the
most convenient way to get many of the programs you'll need to use
that connection. You can even install the software on the C@B 2001 CD
right over the C@B software from previous years, and your programs
will be updated while your settings are preserved.
The new CDs should be available for purchase early next week.
More information is available on the C@B website (http://cab.berkeley.edu/).
For those of you who would like to publicize the C@B CD in your
department, we do have a limited number of Connecting@Berkeley 2001
posters available. If you'd like one, please stop by room 297 Evans
(near the southwest corner of the second floor) to pick it up.
