We're looking for a few good testers to help us in testing the
Connecting@Berkeley 2001 CD: the latest, cutting edge release of the
campus's Internet connection kit. (See below for what's new this
year.)
** If you can devote some reasonable amount of time to testing this
CD during from now through the end of June 2000 **, please drop us a
note at:
<cab-feedback@socrates.berkeley.edu>
We'll arrange to get the C@B 2001 beta 1 CD to you right away.
What's new in this year's CD
----------------------------
The C@B 2001 CD now supports Windows 2000, DHCP connections from
Windows PCs, and Mac OS 9. This new CD also incorporates new
features and products, including:
- Improved methods for configuring and switching between
multiple dial-up and Ethernet connections, based on
NetSwitcher for Windows and a custom-written application
for the Mac OS.
- Automated signup via a dial-up connection. Campus
customers can now take the CD right home and dial into a
special service to set up their Home IP and UCLink accounts.
- Software for establishing secure connections, including
a Windows SSH client and CalNet/Kerberos core software.
About the C@B CD
----------------
The Connecting@Berkeley CD is a tool intended to make it easy for
campus students, staff and faculty to set up their computers to
connect to the Internet through the Berkeley campus via:
- The campus's dial-up modem services.
- Ethernet in campus offices, residence halls, and public library ports.
This multi-platform CD also installs a variety of popular Internet
applications for Windows and the Mac OS. It supports Windows
95/98/NT4/2000, Mac OS 8.5 to 9.0.4, and Linux (most
flavors/versions).
