I just read the following WEB page. Actually, I can receive mail NOW
at ddriver@berkeley.edu. What I can't do is configure Eudora with
that address. Will I be able to soon? Ever? Never? Thanks.

        The Berkeley.EDU Expeditionary Force (BEEF) is a sub-commitee
of the ITAC , looking at the idea of creating a mail forwarding
service which would allow campus users (faculty, staff, and students)
to publish and use "user@Berkeley.EDU" mail addresses. These
addresses would be shorter, easier to remember, and more strongly
associated with the campus than the addresses most of the community
is currently using. Mail would be forwarded to whereever the user
actually receives mail (either uclink, socrates, or a departmental
server). The recommendation will be for an opt-in service--users will
go to a web page to choose and activate a Berkeley.EDU address.

The BEEF is meeting approximately weekly, and intends to have a final
proposal available for review by the ITAC's Februrary 26th meeting.
The proposal will also be available on this web site.
