I'm afraid I'll miss Monday's (1/7) meeting -- personal affairs
have arisen.
Just to add some clarity on the idea of the CalNet ID being used
for the address: the steering committee didn't support the idea
of forcing the CalNet ID as the email address, but didn't go so far as
to say that the CalNet ID should receive the same protection given other
privacy-protected data. This could allow a user to select the CalNet ID
from existing addresses that are in use (along with uclink or socrates
login names) if self-selection were elected.

Subject: Next meeting, and article
I'm writing up a short blurb for BC&C about the Berkeley.EDU effort. It's
due next Monday, and things being what they are, I may not manage to get a
draft to you guys much before I need to submit it, but I'll try to. Let me
know if there's anything you want to be sure to address. At this point, I'm
thinking a brief outline is: here's the idea, here's why it's a good idea,
it won't be replacing uclink, it won't be replacing departmental identities,
and there will probably be some sort of personal choice involved.
Non-controversial stuff.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 7th, at 1:30 PM in 261
Campbell Hall. Our agenda is a rehash--hopefully we will have better
attendance this time:
* Discuss the implications of the CalNet friendly name being private.
Does it change our desire to coordinate?
* Decision: Will we auto-generate addresses? If so, what scheme will
we use? (Four to think about: tom.holub, th123, holu123, tcholub.
Other suggestions welcome).
See you there.
