Windows and Mac clients in many different academic departments in
Barrows, Dwinelle, Wheeler, and other buildings on campus.
The position will also be the second-in-command for our Windows server
team, helping our primary server administrator with day-to-day tasks
and migration projects. We are planning to move to a totally
new server architecture, hosted in the campus data center, and this
position will be instrumental in defining and implementing that new
architecture.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert hardware/software support for PC and
Macintosh systems to departments and programs within the College of
Letters & Science.
- Responsible for installation, configuration, system
security, and troubleshooting a variety of technical issues in a
multi-platform environment that includes Microsoft Windows and
Macintosh systems.
- Adhere to strong (industry standard) systems administration
techniques and procedures.
- Provide hands-on training for new customer supported
software applications and/or databases.
- As a member of the Windows server team, work with Windows
servers and Active Directory, including managing user permissions,
managing groups, monitoring account policies, and troubleshooting group
policies.
- Assist in implementing system security policy, including
firewalls, server/client access, file permissions, and creating and
managing user accounts.
Requirements
- Significant experience installing and configuring Windows
desktop clients (Windows 2000 and XP).
- Experience working with Windows file sharing and print
servers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other typical desktop
applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication, customer
service, and organizational skills.
- This position has been designated as sensitive and may
require a Criminal Background Check. We reserve the right to make
employment contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal
Background Check.
Desired qualifications
- Experience troubleshooting and managing Mac OS X desktop
systems.
- Experience with FileMaker Pro database development and
design.
