About Help systems

Getting help with your computer literally can be right at your fingertips, if you know the magic combination: Command and ? on the Macintosh keyboard or F1 for Windows. Place your cursor on an empty spot on your Macintosh desktop and hold down the Command or Apple key, then type a ? and you will launch "Mac Help." You can then type in a question or browse useful topics such as "Working with your Desktop" or "CDs, DVDs, and Disks." On the Windows platform, striking the F1 key will bring up the Windows "Help and Support Center," offering a similar range of topics.

Though other help conventions for Windows PC and Macintosh users vary, a Help section can always to be found in the rightmost position on any application's menu bar.

Help submenu items for Windows includes "About ..." which tells you (and us) what version of the application you are running. This can be very important information for us if you are having problems with your software, not only because certain features are version specific, but also because many problems can be solved by updating to a more recent version of the program.

That same information for Mac users is found in a section titled About, located at the far left of your application's menu bar, under the application's name.

If you get lost in the jungle of help menus, just call LSCR!
