Explanatory Supplement
The College of Letters and Science's calendar for academic personnel merit
and promotion actions effective July 1, 2007 is below. Please do not
use the deadline dates listed on the APO web page. The deadlines
listed on that calendar are the deadlines by which the Deans must submit
their recommendations to the Academic Personnel Office.
The purpose of this calendar is to distribute the anticipated workload evenly
over the course of the academic year. It is important that all deadlines be met,
but it is especially important for those cases that require ad hoc
committees. If possible, please submit your cases early, especially for normal
merits within the Associate and Full Professor levels.
Your 2006-07 Faculty Staffing List, sent separately, shows faculty who are
eligible for merits, promotions, or are to undergo the mandatory five year review,
with an effective date of July 1, 2007. Please report any discrepancies on
this list to us.
Review Materials
The cut-off date for inclusion of materials in all cases, with the exception
of promotions and appraisals, is June 30, 2006. This corresponds with
the material included in the Annual Supplement to the Bio-Bibliography. For cases
of promotion and final appraisal, material completed up to the established calendar
deadline will be accepted. APM 220-18 provides important guidelines
regarding advancement through the steps of the professorial series. Please submit
an original plus one copy for all actions. Please refer to APM 025. All cases
require certification that the forms for reporting compensated outside
professional activities and additional teaching activities (categories I and II)
have been submitted in accordance with the policy. (Policy, checksheets, and
other information at
http://apo.chance.berkeley.edu/)
Deferral of Submission of Cases
If you are unable to meet published deadlines, a request for postponement
of a case must be made to your Divisional Dean prior to established deadlines.
Late cases will be given a low priority in the review process.
If you have questions, please contact the Executive Assistant for your division.
We look forward to working with you in the coming year.
