The
National Institute for Summer Scandinavian Studies
is a program of summer instruction coordinated
by the University of Washington, the University
of Minnesota, and the University of California,
Berkeley. On a rotating basis, these three Scandinavian
Departments offer a full summer program of instruction
with intensive language courses and other classes
in Scandinavian literature, culture, and film.
The program is supported by federal Title VI
money. It is intended to provide students around
North America with the opportunity to take intensive
summer courses in Nordic languages in the context
of a summer Institute, which features special
events, guest lectures, film screenings, and outings
in addition to summer classes.
In
the summer of 2002, the UC-Berkeley Department
of Scandinavian is the host institution for
NISSS, and has planned a wide array of courses
and events for participants. For more information,
see the NISSS
2002 Berkeley web site.
The
planned rotation for following years is:
Summer
2003: University of Minnesota
Summer 2004: University of Washington
