Psychology graduate student Lisa Talbot
has received a prestigious
P.E.O. Scholar Award
for the 2009-2010
academic year. This competitive, merit-based award is from
PEO International, an organization that
provides educational awards for women pursuing doctoral-level
degrees. Lisa is a fourth-year graduate student in the clinical
science program. Her interests lie in the role of sleep in mood
disorders such as bipolar disorder, the relationship between
sleep and mood in healthy individuals, and the role of cognitive
processes in insomnia. She received an M.A. in 2008 from UC
Berkeley and a B.A. in 2000 from Stanford University. During her
time at UC Berkeley she has worked on a study examining the
effect of pre-sleep mood on sleep in inter-episode bipolar
disorder. She has also investigated the effects of sleep
deprivation on anxiety in a sample of healthy adolescents and
adults. Additionally, Lisa serves as a therapist for an insomnia
treatment study. She also works as an Intern in the UC Berkeley
Psychology Clinic and as a Graduate Student Instructor for
undergraduate courses such as the Psychology of Sleep.
