The University Office of Financial Aid (201 Sproul Hall, (510) 642-1455) offers a wide variety of programs to help students meet their educational expenses. Financial aid is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and is available to all citizens of the U.S. and foreign students who hold either an immigrant or refugee visa. Among the types of aid offered are grants, loans, and work-study.

Students generally must apply for financial aid six to nine months in advance of the award period. (Late applications are subject to the availability of funds after the needs of on-time applicants have been met.) All students must complete the University financial aid application paket and the Student Aid Application for California. Both will be available from the Office of Financial Aid in December. Students should consult the Office of Financial Aid for precise deadlines, which will probably be in the first week of February. For certain loans, other deadlines apply. Please consult the Office of Financial Aid.
