In 2005, Alan Dundes, one of the University of California,
Berkeley's most beloved professors, unexpectedly passed
away. During the span of his career, Professor Dundes not
only published widely and prolifically but helped
revolutionize the field of folklore. Here at Berkeley,
Professor Dundes created a vibrant program and personally
trained generations of undergraduates and graduate
students, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in
the field. A truly international scholar, he was familiar with
folklore scholarship and in dialogue with folklorists around
the world.
To continue his legacy, the UC Berkeley Folklore
Program, in collaboration with the Graduate Division, has
created the Alan Dundes Graduate Fellowship Fund. Every
year, a committee will elect one outstanding Berkeley
Folklore graduate student as the Alan Dundes Graduate
Fellow. Our goal is to sustain awareness of his pivotal role
in the program and contribute to graduate training in the
discipline.
Please join us in honoring the contributions of a
brilliant scholar and ensuring the continued visibility and
vitality of the discipline of folklore. We invite you to
contribute to the Fund by completing The Alan Dundes
Graduate Fellowship Fund in Folklore gift remittance form
and sending it to:
