JOMON FIELD SCHOOL, 2008

Nebuta Festival
The “Nebuta Matsuri” is an annual festival which showcases large floats or “nebuta” made of wood and washi paper, brightly painted and illuminated from the inside by thousands of lights.  Every August these floats are paraded through central Aomori accompanied by thousands of “haneto” or dancers, dressed in brightly-colored yukata and dancing to the tune of flutes and drums.  Locals and tourists alike flock to see the lively celebration, and everyone is encouraged to participate! As a field school student, you will have an exciting opportunity to partake in the festivities.  Without a doubt, the Nebuta Festival will become one of your most memorable experiences in Aomori.
Costs: Approximately $15 (dry cleaning charges of the Nebuta costume)
